Hello lovelies!
It’s festival season, folks! August brings us not one, but TWO big fringe festivals, both of which are great places for fans of immersive and interactive theatre to catch some established favourites and discover new gems.
Edinburgh Fringe
There are lots of immersive offerings in Edinburgh this year, including shows from Voidspace Live favourites Emily Carding (Hamlet (an experience)) and Alistair Aitcheson (My Date With Pierce Brosnan).
Luckily for us our friends at Immersive Rumours have put together the most fabulous festival rundown to shine a light onto everything else!
Camden Fringe
For those of us Londoners who can’t make it up north we have our own Camden fringe, which offers us a whole heap of immersive offerings
And for those who like their immersion to infuse every part of their festival experience, there is the mighty Boomtown Festival. Four days of this all encompassing festival bring four days of joyful mayhem and all round weirdness to a corner of Hampshire. This really is one that has to be experienced to be believed.
We hope that those of you who can, can get out there and absorb everything festival season has to offer.

- Hamlet (an experience) from Brite Theatre Hamlet has the questions. Do you have the answers? A prince of Denmark needs your help. Take on the roles, journey through the play and resolve the great questions of life together, immersed in the story as never before. From the creators of Richard III (a one-person show) and Deliverance. Starring Emily Carding, directed by Kolbrún Björt Sigfúsdóttir

- if (kinship) {become( );} by Computational Arts MFA and MA Arts & Practiced Based Research Pathwaystudents at Goldsmiths, University of London. This is an exhibition that explores multiple forms of relationship. These discussed relationships take place between humans and machines, machines and machines, and humans themselves. Through artistic practice, it seeks a midpoint of convergence between human emotion and computational culture.

- St James Hatchem Buildings, London
- Scream Unsynced by Computational Arts MFA an d MA Design and Creative Technology Pathway students at Goldsmiths, University of London. Across code, sound, image, installation, performance, and visitors, encounter screens that watch back, voices that arrive a beat late, bodies rendered almost right, and avatars and senses that sit just on the wrong side of real.
By the time the sound reaches you, you have already changed. Scream Unsynced is the gap where you two meet.

- Efectos Especiales (Special Effects) from Luciana Acuña & Alejo Moguillansky Action! A truck rumbles past with music blaring. A dancer leaps and stumbles, their body moving forward against forces that refuse to let up. Then suddenly the elements erupt: thunder rolls, wind lashes and snow falls in this immersive theatre experience which transforms an everyday street into a live film set. This “gloriously inventive” (The Theatre Times) event has already thrilled audiences in Sydney, Santiago and Buenos Aires. Now it’s time for Greenwich Peninsula to play a starring role.

- My Date With Pierce Brosnan from Alistair Aitcheson. It’s anarchic, it’s saucy and it’s totally unpredictable. It’s a clown romance controlled by you! Mademoiselle Cafetière is a lonely clown who meets the man of her dreams: Hollywood actor Pierce Brosnan. There’s just one catch. Pierce Brosnan is a talking dummy piloted by you, the audience. Scan a QR code with your phone and type what you want Pierce Brosnan to say. If you type it, he will say it – he has no filter! Play matchmaker or wreak havoc in the most bizarre love story ever to grace the stage!

- Bridge Command – Ever wanted to fly your own starship? Fully interactive adventures in space from the team behind Parabolic Theatre. Read our conversation with Director Owen Kingston. Bridge Command has recently celebrated being in action for two years and has launched new Frontline Missions where participants can expect to be deployed into active warzones with intense, large-scale scenarios, tactical coordination between multiple ships and moral decisions under pressure. From 19-24 May, all other mission types will be suspended to focus on Frontline Missions and then they will become a permanent feature after that.
